Activating a new device in Lutron
You replaced a shade motor and all of a sudden you cannot control it with Lutron, like you were able with the previous motor. To get there, shade motor must be firstly activated in the Lutron app (I am using Lutron Homeworks).
First step after opening Lutron Homeworks and selecting desired version/database is to select activate tab and devices from the dropdown menu.
Identify the old motor (E8418) either by serial number if you know it or dig it out from the drawings and then find out which processor it is connected to. If you're having troubles, just check every processor and link until you find it. Then we make sure correct processor and link are selected.
1) Select Start Activation: this starts the process of identifying physical Lutron devices connected to selected link/processor.
2) Select Sync and save : we must select this because we removed old motor and installed a new motor.
Select Deactivate motor E8418.
Then you should see Deactivate button gone.
Select Using PC to flash/wiggle each device. Newly installed motor will start wiggling.
Then select Activate to activate new motor.
New motor activated. Select Exit Activation.
Now it's time to transfer newly modified program to the processors. Go to transfer tab, select Full Transfer (always select Full Transfer after adding a new device) and select Start Transfer.
You should see Transfer Complete after few minutes. If there are any failures, inspect them. In my case, two failures were related to two disconnected Lutron keypads (disconnected due to upholstery being changed). That is it.
